More from the 2025 Corner Box Challenge

For these two entries into this year’s challenge I chose to re-create corner boxes featuring Charlton Comics’ Atomic Mouse and Harvey’s Little Audrey.
Atomic Mouse was created in 1953 by writer-artist Al Fago and first appeared in Atomic Mouse issue one.
The Little Audrey comics were based on the animated cartoon series produced by Famous Studios for Paramount Pictures.

Pigs in Space is a recurring sketch from the Muppet Show that parodies numerous sixties and seventies TV Sci-Fi shows.
The segment features the adventures of the crew of the Swinetrek lead by Captain Hogthrob, First Mate Piggy and Dr Julius Strangepork.

The Military Macaw (Ara militaris) is named after its green and red plumage vaguely resembling a Military Uniform.
Most wild populations of the bird are currently listed by the ICNU (International Union for Conservation of Nature) vulnerable whilst Mexico considers it to be endangered

Found an old SuperHeroine character design and threw a quick background behind her.

My version of a Charlton Comics Haunted Love “Corner Box” for Rich Smith Illustrations’ Corner Box Challenge over on Instagram.
Corner Boxes originated when comics were primarily sold at news stands and other general stores.
The comics were either placed in spinner racks or they were displayed on a newsstand just like magazines. This meant that the covers of the comics would often be obscured, with either the top or left side of the comic being seen.
A way of indicating the contents of a comic, no matter how it was displayed was needed, thus the corner box (a small piece of art at the top left of a comic cover) was born.
